What you Appreciate …Appreciates

I love this phrase and I have seen it in action.  Appreciating the good things in our lives draws more of the good things to us.  Your hot coffee, washing machine, laptop, hot shower, a raise, or a great night’s sleep are experiences or items to appreciate.  Sometimes these fabulous things get lost in the anguish of our lives. I lost my feelings of appreciation for a while.

The recession that started in 2009 wreaked havoc on our business, Our clients stopped buying marketing products, a few were let go, or the companies stopped do business. Our sales plummeted. I was filled with fear and worry. I changed my perspective after living a year or two of anxiety.

I attended a health fair in 2012.  I picked up a few books and started reading about the Law of Attraction, finding things to make me smile, staying on your high-flying disk and acquire a sense of knowing that all is well. Really? How? with all this turmoil around me.  The first step was Appreciation.

Each morning before the TV or Computer or phone, I started writing in my new journal, at least 3 items that I appreciated.  I smile as I write them and feel the sweet emotion of appreciation.  Initially I would really have to search but then it dawned on me What a brat I have been Look at what you have: a car, a home, a refrigerator with food, a school for your child with autism, a supportive husband, clothes, family, and clients that were ordering from me.  Instead of looking at what I did not have I started looking at what I did have.

In the case of our Business “ Rogers Marketing” this is what we did:

  • sent hand written thank you notes to a client after each order placed

  • mailed a monthly gift to our clients whether they ordered from us or not.

  • sat in the knowing that all is well and this too will pass

  • mailed our suppliers thank you gifts

  • I stopped complaining and getting angry

Our business started to shift and we increased our sales by 240% in the next 5 years. The best part is I released the fear I felt around the downturn. All is well and it is for you too.
